Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important political figure said the attack left him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
